Grateful & Blessed: Celebrating Life’s Greatest Gifts This Thanksgiving

If you know the Michels and our traditions, you are probably anticipating me talking about Thursday Turkey Trot, movie night, backyard football, spoons, frying turkeys, Christmas Vacation, sleepovers and prepping for The Game.  Well, those are all things I am grateful for and I love to share, but this weeks’ blog is a deeper reflection.  I know, I know, not as exciting, but hear me out.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude. This season always reminds me to pause and reflect on the many blessings in my life. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of the year, but Thanksgiving calls us to shift our focus and truly appreciate the gifts we’ve been given.

First and foremost, I’m thankful for my family. They are my anchor, my joy, and my greatest blessing. The love and support of those closest to me is something I never take for granted. A huge shoutout to DiAnna, McKenna & Tyler, Grace, Izzy, and Faith!  You all rock!

I’m also deeply grateful for my friends—those who challenge me, encourage me, and share life’s ups and downs. Each relationship is a testament to the power of connection and community. Too many to list but if you are wondering if he is talking about/to me - yes I am!

Above all, I thank God. His grace and provision guide my every step. Even in life’s challenges, His faithfulness reminds me that I’m never alone.

My health is another gift I treasure—something we often overlook until it’s tested. Being able to run, hike, and simply enjoy life with those I love is a privilege I hold dear.

All that said, it wouldn’t be a Full Potential blog if I didn’t offer ways for each of us to experience life to the fullest.  So, this Thanksgiving, I want to challenge myself—and all of us—to be even more intentional about gratitude. Here are a few ways we can practice it:

Pause to reflect: Take a few moments each day to list what you’re thankful for. Writing it down can make those blessings feel even more real.

Express it openly: Tell the people in your life what they mean to you. A simple “thank you” or a heartfelt note can brighten someone’s day.

Serve others: Gratitude grows when we give. Whether it’s volunteering, donating, or helping a neighbor, small acts of kindness can make a big impact.

Find joy in the ordinary: The everyday moments—a shared meal, a sunset (make sure you’re out early 😊), a laugh—are often the most meaningful blessings.

Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday; it’s a posture of the heart. When we choose to focus on what we have instead of what we lack, our perspective shifts. Gratitude doesn’t just make us happier—it deepens our relationships, strengthens our faith, and reminds us of what truly matters.

This year, I’m counting my blessings and cherishing the people and moments that make life beautiful. My hope is that you’ll join me in embracing gratitude, not just on Thanksgiving but every day. Because a grateful heart is a truly blessed one.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Brian
